In this module students will explore Tibetan medicine. Again, an understanding of the basic concepts of Tibetan medicine are required in order to understand the way Tibetan medicine approaches diet and nutrition. The various seasonal changes and rhythms will be explored together with an introduction to Buddhist concepts that underpin Tibetan medicine. The following is a brief overview of what will be covered in this module:

  • Ignorance and the three mental poisons
  • The three humours and their connection to the three mental poisons
  • The five elements
  • The seven body constituents
  • The concept of Dhang and the Lha body
  • The influence of the moon upon the body and Lha body
  • The importance of Medrod
  • The six tastes of Tibetan medicine
  • The concept of hot and cold foods
  • Seasonal eating
